I am a postdoctoral researcher at ETH Zurich with an interest in analyzing the societal impact of information access systems.
I work on the societal impact of information access and decision-support systems. From recommender systems to outcome-based matching mechanisms, I examine the benefits these systems induce for the population of stakeholders and question how they balance efficiency with fairness. I use (1) conceptual modeling (data flow diagrams and abstraction hierarchies) to increase the transparency of such systems, (2) mathematical modeling to investigate incentives, uncover impossibilities, and provide theoretical guarantees, and (3) computational modeling to experiment with alternative system designs. Particularly on the design side, I am working on applying social choice theory to co-design and co-evaluate AI systems and improve their alignment with stakeholders' values.
